Respect what Mr Lee stood for

Demolishing 38, Oxley Road is the right thing to do ("Poll: Most people back demolition of 38, Oxley Road"; last Wednesday).

After all that Mr and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew have done for us, it is only appropriate that we honour their wishes.

They embodied all that is right, in living life to the fullest, from being responsible in their jobs to ensuring the development of Singapore and taking care of the family.

They passed on the importance of this to society at large.

Hence, supporting what they stood for and respecting their wishes is the least we can do.

In deferring to their wishes, we also reveal our true character and ability to do what is right.

It is noble of the Lee family to donate the value of the house to charity.

It is what Mr and Mrs Lee would have expected, as they were always thinking about others when they helped to build this nation.

As for a memorial, that is for another time and another place, and when the time is right.
