Residents get priority in HDB carparks

We thank Mr Lim Yew Beng for his letter (Why is HDB giving BlueSG cars such special treatment?; Jan 3).

Car-sharing supports the Government's vision for a car-lite Singapore as it provides an additional point-to-point travel option for the majority of Singaporeans who do not own a car.

For this reason, we have allowed car-sharing operators to use parking spaces in public carparks.

In the case of Housing Board carparks, only those with excess spaces, after meeting residents' needs, will be shortlisted for the car-sharing vehicles at prevailing parking charges.

The BlueSG car-sharing programme is Singapore's first nationwide electric vehicle (EV) car-sharing programme. To provide users with the convenience and flexibility of returning the EVs at charging stations around the island, BlueSG has been working with the relevant organisations, including HDB and private carpark operators, to secure parking spaces near electricity sources.

Within multi-storey carparks, spaces designated for EV car-sharing are typically found on the lower decks as they need to be near an electricity source so that the EVs can immediately be charged upon return.

In surface carparks, these points would have to be located near the available Overground Boxes or the electrical substation.
