Register all religious teachers

It is an excellent idea to register all religious teachers of Islam in the Asatizah Recognition Scheme ("Islamic teachers must be registered from Jan 1"; Aug 22).

To ensure that all religions in Singapore practise their faiths in a multiracial and multi-religious context, registration should be made mandatory for all religious teachers here, not just for Islamic teachers.

The teachers should register themselves with their respective religious controlling bodies.

In addition, the content of their teaching materials should be vetted and approved by the respective controlling bodies, which should also come up with criteria to qualify as a religious teacher.

Ultimately, all religious controlling bodies and their registered religious teachers should come under one ministry.
