Young people today need to be more sensitive about the community around them (You're not alone: Show of support for cancer patients at 17-hour community event; ST Online, Feb 18).
Whether cancer is foreign or familiar to us, showing compassion and support to those in need is what we should do.
Young people can play a part in showing support to those in need to create a more inclusive and bonded society.
We could actively take part in events like Relay for Life. We could also donate to beneficiaries or share the stories of cancer survivors.
These steps may not make much of a difference on their own, but they can have a snowball effect to raise awareness on these issues.
When the warmth of our hearts reaches those patients or survivors, I believe we will be able to put a smile on their faces, which might be the key to brightening their day and getting them through the fight.
