People make all the difference

The great difference between Hong Kong's MTR and Singapore's MRT is people.

Sunday's report ("Repair crews at the heart of MTR's success") highlights the key success factor of MTR's rail operation: people with skills, talent, dedication, training and expertise, and vigilance.

Singapore's MRT moves millions of commuters daily.

We must have engineers who are as high quality as Hong Kong's.

We cannot maintain the MRT trains the way we carry out the repair and maintenance of cars.

We can have a solid minister and a top engineer in charge, but what makes the difference are the people maintaining and repairing the MRT.
