End of road tax disc

Pass cost savings on to motorists

As a motorist who has been driving for more than 10 years, I welcome the move to do away with the road tax disc ("No need to display road tax disc from Feb 15"; Tuesday).

As Singapore has set its sights on becoming a Smart Nation, we should go paperless in various transactions and dealings with government agencies, and hopefully, with companies as well.

The latest move will not only save time and money for both the Land Transport Authority and motorists, but will also simplify the process of renewing one's yearly or half-yearly road tax.

I hope any cost savings in doing away with the road tax disc can be passed down to the public, perhaps in the form of a lower road tax.
