Overseas Singaporean proud of electoral passion

As a Singaporean living and working in London, I am filled with pride to see the passion shown by all parties contesting in the general election.

This shows the world that we are well on our way to becoming a First World nation.

I am always eager to read the hustings coverage in mainstream media, along with alternative news outlets on the Internet.

One can only wonder what it feels like to attend the rallies in person and feel the excitement first-hand.

Democracy is well and truly alive in our island nation.

The contests have been matched by vigorous discussions online; unfortunately, this has triggered much vitriol among supporters of various political parties, sometimes bordering on being uncivilised.

After this election, we should remember that regardless of our political leanings and preferences, we're one people from the same country.

We should empower ourselves and Singapore's future by working together and pulling in a common direction.

I look forward to casting my vote at the Singapore High Commission in Britain this week, and I look forward to the election results, despite being far away from home.
