To curb food wastage, some have suggested matching food establishments with charities or needy homes. What other ways are there to make good use of excess food?

Plan meals, use grocery lists and avoid impulse buys. This way, you're less likely to buy things you don't need and are unlikely to consume. Buy items only when you have a plan for using them, and wait until perishables are all used up before buying more. Buy exactly what you need.

How can clinics and other healthcare institutions better cater to the needs of an ageing population?

If you really have a sick elderly patient who requires immediate attention, health staff should ensure that he is given priority. A notice should be put up so others waiting are informed. As it is, there are more elderly folk among us - if all are given priority, what about the rest who are equally sick?

An accurate appointment and scheduling system will help - no need for priority queues if the schedule is adhered to. Admin staff doing the scheduling should alert service staff on that day too.

I suggest having three different registration counters: one for those with appointments, one for walk-in senior citizens and one for general patients. For walk-in elderly patients, staff should assess the ailment and give priority to patients with serious illnesses.

Do pre-school teachers have more important roles than just imparting knowledge, as they are often the caregivers children have the most contact with, after their parents? What can be done to attract talent to the sector?

Pre-school teachers should have a pay scale similar to that of primary school teachers, considering that a child can spend a full six years in pre-school before starting Primary 1. Teachers in pre-schools are instrumental in shaping a child's development in these initial years. We should give better recognition to pre-school teachers.
