It is strange that Feng Tianwei is able to represent Singapore when she has been officially terminated from the national team by the country's representing body, the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) (STTA should be in Feng's corner, by Thomas Lee Chee Chee; Forum Online, June 5).
I am not taking the side of any party, but it does appear odd.
Wouldn't it be similar to me representing my former company after it terminated my services?
I hope the STTA or Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth can clarify this matter.
To represent a country is an honour, a proud moment for any athlete, and it is done with the official sanctioning of the nation's respective sports body.
The athlete represents the country, and any inappropriate word, gesture or action by a national athlete can bring dishonour to the country.
I am sure the the sports fraternity in Singapore would agree with this.
