Keep open mind on foreign workers

In the light of the arrests of 27 Bangladeshi construction workers in Singapore ("27 radicalised Bangladeshis held under ISA"; last Thursday), it is crucial that we do not react adversely to other foreign workers in our society just because of this incident, but instead, continue to regard them with openness.

Many foreign workers come to Singapore to earn a living and support their families. They have made significant contributions to our society in various ways.

We should not allow a few black sheep to affect our mindset about the entire community of foreign workers here.

In such chaotic times, it is imperative that we continue to maintain social harmony in Singapore.

While we remain aware of activities happening around us, we must also remember to keep an open mind towards other people, regardless of their race, nationality or religion.

Each of us has a role to play in the fight against terrorism. We must remain united as a nation.
