HDB to take contractor to task

We refer to the letter by Mr Tan Thian Huat (Town council left to clean up after irresponsible contractor; May 8).

Flat owners who wish to carry out renovation works must ensure that their appointed contractor has obtained a renovation permit from HDB before the works begin.

During the renovation period, contractors should ensure that they carry out only authorised works, and work within the permitted hours.

They are also required to protect the common properties, including cleaning and removing any stains and renovation debris in the common areas at the end of each day.

HDB will carry out audit checks to ensure that the contractors comply with the stipulated guidelines.

Contractors who infringe the guidelines will be penalised accordingly.

Our investigation showed that, in the case of the unit mentioned by Mr Tan, the renovation contractor had failed to adhere to the renovation guidelines and we will be taking appropriate actions to penalise him.

Residents with feedback on renovation works can contact our branch service line on 1800-225-5432 or the Essential Maintenance Service Unit after office hours.

HDB will investigate and take the necessary actions against the contractors if they are found to have infringed the rules.
