Hawker centre review to consider stakeholders' views

The National Environment Agency (NEA) thanks Miss Choun Ray Yi ("Up to us to keep hawker trade booming"; Forum Online, April 14), Mr Kwan Jin Yao ("Hawkers' views must be central to review"; April 15) and Dr Chan Lai Gwen ("Keeping the hawker trade alive"; last Saturday) for their various suggestions.

Hawker food is close to the hearts of many Singaporeans.

The Hawker Centre 3.0 Committee aims to recommend strategies to ensure the continued sustainability and vibrancy of hawker centres, as well as the promotion of the hawker trade, so that a well-loved part of Singapore life will continue to flourish well into the future.

Over the coming months, NEA will be studying the suggestions from the committee and piloting some of these suggestions to evaluate their feasibility.

During this period, the committee will be approaching key stakeholders, such as hawker associations, to seek their views and draw on their ideas.

NEA notes the various suggestions on what the committee should look into and will take them into consideration, in consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
