Foster unity to beat terrorism

In the wake of the Paris attacks, we are faced with one crucial question: How do we eliminate the roots of radicalism?

We need to understand the reasons for the rapid growth of extremism and the pull of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

We will then be able to implement measures to prevent our countrymen from being recruited into its ranks.

Ignorance breeds misunderstanding. Hence, constant and open dialogue between various faiths and ethnic groups is very important in maintaining racial and religious harmony.

We have a duty to foster unity and cohesion among fellow Singaporeans. If not, the terrorists would have defeated us - not on the battlefield, but in our own homes.
