Flawed education system has benefits

While we are quick to point out the flaws in the education system, we should not overlook the benefits (Go beyond book-smarts, to resilience and curiosity; Jan 31).

We must not dismiss the importance of rote memory.

Through memorisation, students can develop perseverance and learn to push on, regardless of how taxing it is.

The much criticised Primary School Leaving Examination also has its merits.

A poor performance will be a wake-up call for students to work harder, be determined and strive for better academic results.

Still, I am supportive of the upcoming changes to the education system.
