I congratulate all the winners of the Excellent Service Award for food and beverage staff ("Honouring staff who shine in F&B industry"; last Friday).
It is commendable to acknowledge the efforts of those who serve in an industry that draws one of the lowest numbers of job applications and is shunned by locals.
The hard work, lack of glamour and low pay are among reasons for many locals shunning this industry.
We should, therefore, be appreciative of foreigners who are willing to come to Singapore and work in this industry, and who make the effort to allow us to experience good service.
