Explore other ideas to help animals cross the road

While it is always a good idea for motorists to slow down in areas with wildlife, it is almost impossible for this to happen on an expressway.

It is probable that accidents involving wildlife will continue unless necessary preventive steps are taken (Rare deer put down after 3-vehicle accident; June 18).

Some ideas that have been mooted include funnel fencing to direct wildlife to the Bukit Timah Expressway Eco-Link, as well as escape ramps, hatches and flaps that allow animals already caught on the expressway or roadside drains to get out.

It is time to move such ideas off the drawing board and implement them for the benefit of wildlife and the safety of motorists.
