California Fitness said that the closure of its Ngee Ann City outlet was part of its intention to "serve the Singapore community better" ("California Fitness shuts Ngee Ann City outlet"; last Saturday).
It should also focus on serving its members better.
Many members use the Ngee Ann City outlet, but they were given less than two weeks' notice of the closure. Surely, the gym should at least explain the reasons for the closure to members.
More significantly, the closure reduces the number of outlets from four to three. This means a massive reduction in workout space and classes. Yet, the membership size remains unchanged.
Can the gym continue to accommodate so many members?
Will the gym allow prepaid term members who have used only the Ngee Ann outlet to withdraw and receive reimbursement?
