Don't treat issue of dumped mail lightly

I read the report "Postman dismissed for throwing away mail and returned letters"(Feb 11) with dismay.

It seems that Singapore Post has no system at all to prevent such abuse.

While the postman might have been dismissed, it still feels like he was let off lightly for an offence like this.

SingPost is operating a public service, and such service should be better regulated. There must be systems to ensure reliable service.

Furthermore, abuses should be treated more seriously, including criminal prosecution.

I urge the authorities to look further into the matter.
