As a consumer, I strongly support having a fourth telco in Singapore and giving it concessions to compete ("Firms fight over mobile band"; yesterday).
Looking at the subscription plans offered by the existing three telcos, whatever competition that exists is not to the benefit of consumers.
Despite increasing charges, service has not improved significantly.
The new entrant can be a game changer, offering better coverage with new technology. It can make a difference in the market and force real changes in the current telcos.
I hope the Infocomm Development Authority will not give in to pressure from the current telcos and will give the new entrant a real shot at competition, in order to benefit consumers.
