Clearer picture of town council data needed

There has been much confusion on the state of the Punggol East ward's financial standing when it was handed over to the Workers' Party (WP) in 2013.

WP chief Low Thia Khiang said that the ward's town council had a deficit of $280,000 ("PAP 'misled voters on financial status of Punggol East'"; Sunday), while Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council chairman Zainal Sapari said Punggol East had a surplus of $21,363 in 2013, and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC's anchor minister, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, said his town council handed more than $22.5 million in cash to Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council in 2013 ("PAP responds to Low's charges on town council"; yesterday).

Perhaps the Government could release the full set of accounts so that the public can find out the correct figure.
