Injured senior helped by strangers
At 4.40pm on Aug 18, I was cycling home from Sin Ming Drive when I encountered an elderly man who was sitting on the pavement outside Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
He was bleeding profusely above the top-left corner of his eye and behind his ear.
He had fallen off his bicycle when it hit a tree branch on the pavement. We were guided to the nearest clinic by a passer-by, where the doctor cleaned the man's wounds and applied a bandage, free of charge.
Upon the doctor's advice, we hailed a taxi to go to Tan Tock Seng Hospital to get the elderly man's wound stitched.
The kind CityCab driver did not accept our payment for the ride, and said it was our duty to help one another in times of need.
I had just enough cash in my wallet to help the elderly man pay his Accident and Emergency fees. All this was possible only because of good Samaritans - the doctor, taxi driver and the kind woman who led us to the clinic.

Memorable birthday for mum at eatery
On Aug 15, my family went to Jack's Place at Century Square mall to celebrate my mother's birthday.
When the food arrived, we found that the fish dishes we had ordered were not very fresh, so we gave our feedback about this to one of the waitresses named Wong.
Without hesitation, she offered to replace the dishes for us. However, we declined as we just wanted to give our feedback.
When the floor manager, Rex, came to ask how the food was, we gave him the same feedback.
He also offered to replace the dishes and apologised for the unsatisfactory food. To our surprise, he came back with a free glass of Sprite for each of us.
And while we were having our dessert, he brought out a complimentary banana split made specially for my mother.
We were all touched by his gesture, especially my mother.
Despite the food being less than satisfactory, the excellent customer service by Rex and Ms Wong more than made up for it.
They truly made my mother's birthday an unforgettable one.
I commend both Rex and Ms Wong for their outstanding service and hope they will be recognised for it.

Grateful for recovered bag
I thank the PSA Club in Bukit Chermin Road for recovering my backpack, which I had left behind after a football match.
Its contents included family photos that could have been lost forever as I do not have copies.
I am very grateful to everyone at the club.
