Some letter writers have expressed their dislike for Airbnb-style rentals (Short-term rental raises inequality, by Ms Cheryl Tan Cher Lin, May 18; Condos are not alternatives to hotels or short-term residences, by Mr Herve Michel, May 14; and Short-term rental benefits a vocal minority, by Mr Paul Chan Poh Hoi, May 6).
I recommend that Airbnb build dormitory-style housing or a budget hotel in Singapore to accommodate customers using its platform.
Or, it could negotiate a deal with hotels to accommodate its users at reasonable prices. This would be a win-win situation.
There are enough hotel rooms here with prices ranging from $60 to $150 a night.
A hotel's staff would be professionally trained to deal with guests, while that might not be the case with apartment owners.
