Accept lawyer's letter as proof for change of address

I am surprised that a letter from a conveyancing lawyer is not accepted as documentary evidence for a change of address in our identity card.

Documents such as bills from banks, the Housing Board, Singapore Power, telcos and town councils are accepted.

If one does not have the required documents of correspondence, he has to apply online for a pre-notification letter from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

The rationale for such a security measure is understandable, but allowing a lawyer's letter as another acceptable proof will definitely enhance the process.
