Sustainability efforts pay off for local property developers

Efforts to boost sustainability have paid off for three local property developers, who have made it to a global index of environmentally conscious firms.

The developers are CapitaLand, City Developments and Keppel Land, which were listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index 2013/2014 for taking into account social and environmental considerations when doing business.

CapitaLand said on Thursday that it has been listed on the index for the second year running. This index features the top 333 out of the 2,500 largest companies, across 45 countries.

CapitaLand president and group chief executive Lim Ming Yan said in a statement that there was a "positive relationship between sustainability and financial performance" and said the firm would continue its sustainbility drive.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index was launched in 1999 and is the longest-running global sustainability benchmark worldwide.
