Surbana in China Highway tie-up to offer project services

Surbana Jurong has teamed up with China Highway Engineering Consulting Corporation (China Highway) to provide design and consultancy services for highway and municipal projects globally.

The joint venture, China Highway-Surbana Jurong Transportation Design and Research Co (China Highway-SJ), is 51 per cent owned by China Highway and 49 per cent by Surbana Jurong, which is wholly owned by Temasek Holdings.

China Highway-SJ has more than 100 experienced engineers based in its Beijing office, which will be gradually expanded, Surbana Jurong said in a press release.

The office was officially opened yesterday by Singapore Ambassador to China Stanley Loh, China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) president Chen Fenjian, Surbana Jurong chairman Liew Mun Leong and China Highway chairman Shang Guan Su.

China Highway is a state-owned enterprise in infrastructure design and construction with projects across China and internationally. Its parent is CCCC, China's largest international engineering contractor, which is listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Surbana Jurong has built more than a million homes in Singapore, crafted masterplans for more than 30 countries and developed over 50 industrial parks globally.

The joint venture aims to capitalise on the experience of China Highway in transportation infrastructure and Surbana Jurong in overseas planning and project management, to pursue highway and infrastructure-related projects globally as well as to undertake projects under China's Belt and Road initiative.

Dr Shang said: "China Highway attaches great importance to the collaboration and believes that this partnership will contribute to the development of local talents, and raise practices to international standards. The joint venture will open up more markets domestically and internationally for both partners, and will be competing on the global stage as a world-class organisation."
