Subdued interest in blue chips sent Straits Times Index marginally lower

Share prices on the Singapore bourse fell with the benchmark Straits Times Index closing marginally lower by 1.5 points or 0.05 per cent to 3,136.59.

The decline, in line with most Asian markets, was caused by protracted budget stand off in the United States as well as investor jitters over certain penny stocks here.

Losers led gainers 381 to 97 while 325 counters were unchanged. Turnover stood at 4.05 billion shares worth $963.2 million.
