Straits Times Index gains 0.4% on positive data in US

Share prices on the Singapore bourse rose, with the benchmark Straits Times Index ending the day higher by 13.29 points or 0.43 per cent to 3,099.93.

The rise, in line with most Asian markets, was led by a better-than-expected climb in a measure of manufacturing activity in the United States.

Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 2.9 per cent while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong gained 0.8 per cent. Australia's ASX 200 climbed 0.5 per cent.

Gainers led losers 246 to 139 while 397 counters were unchanged. Some 1.98 billion shares worth $1.07 billion were done.
