Standard Chartered Bank threw an invitation-only durian party for its clients over two nights earlier this week. The 10th annual durian party, held at Clifford Square, served up a record two tonnes of durians, along with other fruits such as mangosteen, longan, lychee, rambutan and mango. Three premium varieties of durians were up for grabs - the popular Mao Shan Wang, D24 and Green Bamboo - and a mound of husks piled up quickly as gawking tourists took pictures. Those attending the party included (from left) StanChart managing director and regional head of commercial clients Vishal Shah, Natural Cool Holdings executive chairman Joseph Ang, United Oil Company director Ety Tan and StanChart head of commercial clients Kenneth Tham. The bank's durian gala was also in celebration of Singapore's 50 years of Independence. Plastic gloves and hand wipes were provided at every table, handshakes were dispensed with, and guests just had to tuck into the feast of creamy, golden goodness. ST PHOTO: AZIZ HUSSIN
