Share prices on the Singapore bourse jumped in midday trading on Tuesday, fuelled by upbeat manufacturing data from the United States.

The positive sentiment in markets pushed the benchmark Straits Times Index up 1.28 per cent, or 40.36 points, to 3,181.29 as at 2.20pm.

Some 1.24 billion shares worth $682 million were traded.

Gainers outpaced losers 244 to 90 while 461 counters were unchanged.
