Singapore stocks extend rebound to fifth straight day

Singapore shares stretched their recent rally to a fifth straight day on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) adding another 6.35 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 3,035.45.

The volumes remained relatively modest, with 2.3 billion shares worth $922.7 million changing hands.

Regional markets were a sea of green, with Japan rising 0.6 per cent, Hong Kong 1.5 per cent in front and Shanghai advancing 0.3 per cent.

Here, 16 of the 30 STI component counters went up, with just nine down and five unchanged.

The gainers included Singapore Airlines, up 20 cents to $9.95, and Jardine Strategic which increased 97 US cents to US$32.07.
