Singapore shares up ahead of Fed decision

Singapore shares rose 12.93 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 3,193.85 as investors await the outcome of a United States Federal Reserve meeting which will determine whether US stimulus will start being tapered.

There were 266 gainers and 167 losers.

Some 5.4 billion shares changed hands, valued at $1.35 billion.

HanKore Environment continued to lead the list of top actives, rising half a cent to 7.1 cents, with 986.5 million shares traded.

Market debutante rose 6.5 cents to 32.5 cents on its first day of trading, up 25 per cent from its initial offer price of 26 cents.
