Singapore shares stabilise on Friday, up 0.3% in mid-session

THE Singapore stock market stabilised on Friday after six straight sessions of declines.

The benchmark Straits Times Index was up 8.9 points or 0.3 per cent to 3,098.3 points around 12 noon.

Index gainers included Noble Group, up three cents or 3.7 per cent to 84.5 cents.

There was positive data out of Europe, China and the United States but the gains in the market were probably more the work of bargain hunters dipping their toes in after the recent falls.

Across the market, gainers outnumbered decliners 186 to 119.
