Singapore shares down 0.87% in mid-session on Tuesday

Singapore shares looked set for a nineth day of declines on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index down 0.87 per cent by around 12.30pm.

The index was at 3,057.47 points, down 26.94 points from Monday's close.

Among the decliners was Jardine Cycle & Carriage, tumbling $1.71 or 4.8 per cent to $33.74. The stock has been volatile due to concerns over its exposure to Indonesia, which has been impacted recently by an outflow of funds. The company has a large stake in Indonesia's PT Astra Intenational.

Jardine Cycle & Carriage also went ex-dividend on Tuesday, trading without its latest dividend of 18 US cents.

A total of 1.98 billion shares worth $529 million had changed hands across the market.

The weakness was evident throughout the local bourse, with decliners far outnumbering gainers, by 265 to 71.
