StanChart names three regional vice-chairs

LONDON • Standard Chartered has appointed three regional vice-chairs for its corporate and institutional banking (CIB) business, tasked with developing its key client relationships.

Mr Yang Chang-Po has been appointed CIB vice-chair for greater China and North Asia. Mr Sean Verity has the same role for the Americas and Mr Jonathan Bewes has been appointed vice-chair for CIB in Europe. They will be based in Hong Kong, New York and London, respectively.

Standard Chartered said yesterday that they will focus on building the bank's client relationship strategy across industries and global clients, and will also seek to strengthen existing relationships.


Malaysia's July exports up 30.9% year on year

KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysia's export growth in July exceeded expectations, rising 30.9 per cent from a year earlier, government data showed yesterday, on higher shipments of manufactured products and mining goods. The pace of expansion tripled the 10 per cent growth posted in June.

Shipments of manufactured goods, which accounted for more than four-fifths of Malaysia's total exports, were up 32.6 per cent from a year earlier in July, data from the International Trade and Industry Ministry showed. Most of the manufactured goods were electrical and electronic products. July's imports grew 21.8 per cent from a year earlier, up from the 3.7 per cent growth posted in June.
