What is fund passporting?

Under a fund passporting scheme, an investment fund can be sold cross-border as well as in its home market. In the Asia-Pacific, we have had access to the Undertakings for the Collective Investment of Transferable Securities "passported" into the region from either Luxembourg or Ireland for a number of years.

More recently, there are a few Asian-based passporting schemes, including the Asean Collective Investment Schemes (Asean CIS) between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand; the Asia Region Funds Passport scheme with Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Thailand; and the Mutual Recognition of Funds between mainland China and Hong Kong.
