Manufacturing employee Rachel Lim counts herself a rarity in the semiconductor industry, having worked as a customer engineer for more than a decade.

When she started out, most women in that role, which involves solving customers' problems and maintaining equipment in their plants, would move to other positions such as process or software engineers after about two years.
