Grant Bowers, vice-president and portfolio manager with Franklin Equity Group, discusses his outlook on opportunities in our series featuring fund managers and market experts.

Based in San Mateo, California, Mr Grant Bowers is the lead portfolio manager for the Franklin US Opportunities Fund, with US$4.1 billion (S$5.6 billion) under management as of March 31 this year.

After a stint in the United States Army, he joined Franklin Templeton Investments in 1993 as a fixed income analyst, and in 1998 moved to the Franklin Equity Group as an analyst. His previous research areas included the telecommunications, media, publishing, transportation and business services industries. Prior to assuming his current role, he was research sector team leader for telecommunications research and lead portfolio manager of the Franklin Global Communications Fund from 2002 to 2008.
