In Good Company: Piyush Gupta wants DBS to be 'invisible'

In September 2009, endorsing DBS Group's choice of Mr Piyush Gupta as its new chief executive, The Asian Banker founder Emmanuel Daniel noted in his blog that he could not remember meeting the man, although he seemed to have his card from the time Mr Gupta was CEO of Citibank Malaysia. He added modestly: "I am sure he will have the same problem of placing me."

Eight years on, there is little chance that either my friend Mr Daniel, or anyone else in Singapore, would not have heard of the 58-year-old executive in charge of South-east Asia's No. 1 lender. Or for that matter, the always-alert Mr Gupta forgetting that first meeting with Mr Daniel.
