The spotlight is on China which releases its official gross domestic product (GDP) figures for the third quarter of this year on Tuesday. Economists surveyed by AFP are expecting economic growth to have fallen to 7.2 per cent - the slowest since the depths of the global financial crisis more than five years ago. The setback could prompt more stimulus intervention from Beijing which has set a 7.5 per cent target for expansion this year - the pace of growth in the second quarter.

Flash or preliminary October purchasing managers indices for the United States, euro zone, Germany and France - due on Thursday - will give a first glimpse of the state of their economies heading into the last quarter of the year. Britain won't escape the impact of the euro zone's malaise but is in much healthier shape. Third-quarter GDP data on Friday for Britain is forecast to show growth of 0.7 per cent in July to September.

For Singapore, the spotlight will be on URA's final third quarter property price index out on Friday. Flash estimates from the Urban Redevelopment Authority earlier this month showed that prices of private homes softened further in the July-September period, albeit at a slower rate.
