Weak consumption a likely challenge for Asia economic revival

Even if exports recover, demand drivers like employment, credit may take some time to rebound

The prospect of an economic upturn in Asia next year is yet to get a vote of confidence from the region's consumers.

Easing trade tensions between the world's two biggest economies, an upturn in the technology cycle and easier financial conditions will spur growth, but weak consumption across most of the region is likely to keep the upswing tepid at best for at least the first half of the year.
