STI rallies on improving property, bank stocks

Investors reassess real estate firms and lenders that were hit by cooling measures

The local market defied the air of gloom to rally on the back of improving property and bank shares, although not all of last Friday's losses were regained.

Optimistic investors sent the Straits Times Index up 37 points, or 1.16 per cent, to 3,228.82 on trade of two billion shares worth $1.23 billion. Gainers outnumbered losers 240 to 146.
