SINGAPORE - Shares of major companies on the Singapore Exchange dipped in early morning trade.

The benchmark Straits Times Index was down 0.59 per cent, or 18.99 points, to 3,184.59 by 9.15am local time.

About 224.9 million shares worth a total of $126.1 million changed hands. There were 54 gainers to 152 losers.
