SINGAPORE - Local stocks opened lower on Thursday (Jan 25), with the Straits Times Index retreating 0.1 per cent, or 5.41 points to 3,603.83 as at 9.04am.
This comes as Wall Street ended mixed overnight, with the Dow pushed to a record high on Wednesday, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq retreating amid weakness in airline and computer chip shares.
On the Singapore bourse, about 175.1 million shares worth S$174.3 million in total changed hands. Gainers outnumbered losers 75 to 60.
The most actively traded counters were ISR Capital, which was flat at 0.5 Singapore cent with 75 million shares changing hands; and Accrelist which was down 14.29 per cent, or 0.1 Singapore cent, to 0.6 Singapore cent with 8.87 million shares traded.
Other actives included Genting Singapore, which was down 1.44 per cent, or two Singapore cents to S$1.37 with 8.57 million shares traded; and Sembcorp Marine which was up 0.79 per cent, or two Singapore cents to S$2.54 with 3.03 million shares changing hands.
