SINGAPORE - Singapore share prices opened higher on Monday (Jan 22), with the Straits Times Index (STI) up 0.35 point to 3,550.71 as at 9.02am.

US stocks added gains last week despite a government shutdown, with hopes of more upside if tech stocks such as Netflix and industrial giants such as Caterpillar record earnings that meet Wall Street's estimates.

Top gainers in early morning trade included the Singapore Exchange, which rose 21 Singapore cents to S$8.19.

Some 73.4 million shares worth S$102.6 million changed hands, with gainers outnumbering losers 86 to 62.
