Singapore shares close 0.63% higher on Wednesday

SINGAPORE - Singapore shares continued to rise on Wednesday, ending the day 20.83 points or 0.63 per cent higher at 3,334.56.

Local stocks outperformed their regional peers, which mostly ended lower as crude oil traded near a four-year low and Chinese shares extended losses amid fading interest in the equity-trading link with Hong Kong.

China's Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.2 per cent, falling for a fifth day. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slipped 0.7 per cent to extend a three-week low.

At home, 1.3 billion shares worth $1.05 billion changed hands.

There were 221 gainers versus 159 losers.

Charisma Energy Services was the top active, rising 0.1 cent to three cents on a turnover of 98.7 million shares.
