Markets to stay on edge as Fed meets this week

SINGAPORE - To say the markets started this year on a weak footing would be an understatement.

Global markets have fallen sharply over the past two weeks on concerns of aggressive US Federal Reserve policy tightening and consequent rate hikes. The selling intensified last week after minutes of the central bank's December policy meeting showed a much more hawkish Fed than markets had earlier envisaged.
