Market highlights

1 HSBC Holdings chief executive Stuart Gulliver cancelled a global pay freeze less than two weeks after it was introduced at Europe's biggest bank, reported Bloomberg.

2 Singapore's three gold plays averaged an 11.8 per cent return this year. The SPDR Gold Shares ETF is up 9.7 per cent in Singdollar terms, miner Wilton Resources has gained 15.5 per cent and CNMC Goldmine is ahead 11.1 per cent.

3 Koyo International was told on Wednesday that managing director Foo Chek Heng is being investigated by Singapore authorities over possible offences under Section 197 of the Securities and Futures Act.
