Dow, S&P 500 hit records on momentum from Alibaba, Federal Reserve

NEW YORK (AFP) - The Dow and S&P 500 bolted to fresh records on Thursday on continued momentum from Wednesday's Federal Reserve decision and enthusiasm ahead of Alibaba's expected initial public offering Friday.

At the closing bell, the Dow stood at 17,264.59, up 107.74 points (0.63 per cent), its second record close in a row.

The S&P 500 gained 9.90 (0.49 per cent) to 2,011.47, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index rose 31.24 (0.68 per cent) to 4,593.43.
