AI companies shatter fund-raising records as boom accelerates

OpenAI raised US$122 billion and Anthropic raised US$30 billion as AI companies made up four of the five largest ever recorded deals.

SAN FRANCISCO – OpenAI, Anthropic, Waymo and other AI companies shattered fund-raising records in the first three months of 2026 with a US$297 billion (S$381.7 billion) haul, according to data from Crunchbase, which tracks private investment.

To put that sum into perspective: 2025 was already record-breaking, with technology start-ups raising US$425 billion, up 30 per cent from 2024. The first three months of 2026 put the industry on track to almost triple that amount.
