China beats forecasts to post wider trade surplus in May

BEIJING (AFP) - China recorded a US$20.4 billion (S$25.5 billion) trade surplus in May, customs data showed Saturday, widening from the previous month and ahead of expectations.

Exports increased by 1 per cent last month year on year while imports went down 0.3 per cent, customs authorities said in a statement.
